my thoughts on pop culture stuff
Apr. 13th, 2006 11:22 am Stupid American Idol
After last night's results, now I'm going to actually have to pick up the phone and call in! People, Elliot can actually sing! Why does he keep appearing in the bottom three? I would seriously buy a copy of his rendition of Somebody to Love.2 comments - Leave a comment
Also, based on the Queen medley performance last night, how awesome would it have been if Chris Daughtry had picked Under Pressure for his actual performance song??? He only sang a few notes of it, but it sounded amazing! Maybe Simon was right, maybe Chris should have sung a recognizable Queen song instead!
Apr. 11th, 2006 10:24 am American Idol does Queen
I'm a little scared about tonight's episode of American Idol because the theme will be the music of Queen. Now, I actually love Queen but it's just weird thinking of the American Idol kids rockin' out to their songs. Especially now that they've given a sneak peek at some of their song choices. Taylor Hicks is supposed to do "Crazy Thing Called Love" which seems fine. But Kellie Pickler is doing a "country-fied" version of "Bohemian Rhapsody"??? And Ace Young is going to sing "We Will Rock You" - first of all, is that really a good choice for a singing competition? Also, how will he add his trademark falsetto to that? Well, I'll definitely be watching. Although, so far, I haven't been impressed with these kids. The 50's episode was pretty good but the others were pretty lame in my opinion...Leave a comment
Mar. 14th, 2006 11:09 pm American Idol - 12 Finalists perform!
So some of my random thoughts about tonight's show...2 comments - Leave a comment
*Loved* the montage at the beginning of the show that highlighted how all top 12 finalists got to this point. I even looked up the sappy song they used for the background... in case you were wondering, it's "Keeping The Dream Alive" by German group Freiheit - also known as Munchener Freiheit. I guess it was a hit in the late 80's.
Tonight's theme was Stevie Wonder and the lucky finalists actually had 1-on-1 sessions with this legend! Talk about pressure.
But overall, I agree with Simon... no "wow factor" for me. No one wowed me with their performance! So disappointing. Even the normal showstoppers (Mandise, Chris, Taylor) were kind of "eh".
What's up with Ace Young? Everyone had already been comparing his smoldering, lingering looks with last season's Constantine and tonight the hair stylists seem to even make his hair look like his! And why was he dressed like such a slob? They have stylists now! What's going on?
Was hoping to see a major makeover with Elliot, but no such luck. I guess there's only so much you can do ... but he's a great singer for sure.
And I know Paris Bennet is young, but I *hate* her pig tail look (in rehearsals). It's horrible!!! So glad they didn't bring that on the stage.
I was also disappointed in Melissa McGhee... I actually had been a fan because her voice reminded me of Kelly Clarkson so I was happy when she beat over-achiever Ayla Brown last week, but she bombed this week. She sounded out of tune, she messed up the lyrics (which she also did in front of Stevie during rehearsals!!!), and just looked overall uncomfortable. So I was expecting Simon to totally tear into her since he was the one that told her to pack her bags last week, and instead, he was actually nice!!! He said it was her best performance (although flawed, of course). I was quite surprised by that.
Totally agreed with Simon's comment about Bucky's Jessica Simpson hair - what was up with that??? It reminded me of the Wizard of Oz, when Dorothy and friends got to Oz and got groomed and the lion's mane got all tamed with curls and stuff... that was Bucky tonight! Very disturbing!
And how hilarious was it that "Chicken Little Look-alike" Kevin Covais sang "Part Time Lover"!!!
I loved that Chris Daughtry picked Higher Ground. You know, the only reason I know that song was because they used the Red Hot Chili Peppers version in the movie, "Center Stage" (when Jodi Sawyer was frustrated with ballet and decided to take a funky jazz class at another NYC studio). I thought he sang it well but he did his whole performance while holding the microphone stand. I couldn't tell if it was because he was trying to get the mike out but couldn't, or if he meant to run around holding the stand.
And no one picked my favorite Stevie Wonder song, "Stay Gold"... so sad...
In the end, I would have to say Melissa is the one to go...

This is so funny! Can you guess who this mysterious star is?1 comment - Leave a comment
Click here for the answer! I couldn't believe it! I also couldn't believe that people were able to figure this out!
Feb. 13th, 2006 05:57 pm Random TV thoughts
After weeks of watching Skating with Celebrities, I got a big kick out of watching the "real stuff", i.e. pairs competition at the Olympics. I was impressed before, but now I really am in awe. But there's no one interesting this year to watch... but lots of Asians representing, that's for sure.1 comment - Leave a comment
And Grey's Anatomy is the best show on TV hands down. If you're not watching it, get to it! The last two episodes were amazing. I could go on and on but I'll try to keep it brief. The last two shows were written by the show's creator (Shonda Rhimes, I think?) It was a two part episode, the first being the post super-bowl episode which opened with the three young female interns in a steamy shower scene which I thought was hilarious since it was obvious they were just trying to pull the football crowd in. Reminded me of the year Alias got the post Superbowl slot and they opened their episode with Jennifer Garner strutting in some lacy lingerie (like a Victoria Secret fashion show) - twice! Once in a red outfit and another time in a black outfit, too funny. Anyway, back to GA. The shower scene was just someone's dream. The episode then centered on the infamous Code Black, basically someone had a homemade bomb in their chest cavity and someone else had to whole it in place to prevent the whole thing from exploding. It was intense! That episode ended with the lead character, Meredith Grey (Grey's Anatomy, get it?), being the one who was holding the bomb in place.
So then you get to last night's episode where everything is building up and there's this bomb squad guy (the cute Kyle Chandler!) who's sort of an a** and is barking at Meredith the whole time but you can tell they were setting it up as a potential love interest for Mere since she needs someone new to get over Dr. McDreamy (a whole other saga right there!). So after all this intense, intense, intense build up (btw, did I tell you this was an intense episode?), Mere manages to get the bomb out and give it to the bomb squad guy. This was done in a montage with the climaxes of the two other sub-plots, one resident giving birth, and the resident's husband surviving a brain operation, all to the background music of Anna Nalick's Breathe. So here we are thinking, everything is all winding down, everything's going to be OK, etc. and then Meredith decides to leave the operating room to check on the Bomb Squad guy and then... KABOOM!!!! The bomb explodes and no more bomb squad guy. Can you &*&(&(& believe that??? I screamed!
But you know, I like that they did that. Because everything was built on all this drama around the homemade bomb, so that if it turned out to be nothing, it would have been a huge let down (like last season's Nip/Tuck finale).
The episode ended with the other two girl interns helping Mere wash off all the blood on her in the hospital shower, which I thought was a nice tie-in to the opening shower scene (so that the original scene was more than just a cheap stunt).
Also, the most hilarious line of the show was during the resident (Bailey) giving birth with the help of her intern (O'Malley, a boy). O'Malley was commenting on how he could see the baby coming out and how he had a lot of hair and stuff, to which Bailey (also known as the nazi) barked back with, "O'Malley - stop looking at my va-jay-jay!"
Ooops... I guess I wasn't brief. Oh well!

Hello and happy new year! Does anyone still read this thing? Leave a comment if you are! And if there's no one... well, I guess I'll just be talking to myself then.3 comments - Leave a comment
So anyway, this is a BIG week for TV! Yippee, skippee!
Golden Globes are on tonight. This one is the fun one since they cover both movies and TV so usually all the awards are interesting, (i.e. no "Best Scenic Design or Sound Engineering or that other stuff from the Oscars), AND the atmosphere is more informal where all the guests are served dinner and drinks (emphasis on the latter part - chuckle, chuckle) and every now and then someone is off powdering their nose when their award is announced.
So that's Monday... then on Tuesday is the premiere of.... (drumroll, please).... AMERICAN IDOL! Woo-hoo! Can't wait... And I think Fox is also premiering Figure Skating with the Stars this week which I also plan to watch since the figure skaters are pretty popular, too (example - Nancy Kerrigan!).
So I'm very excited... plus I still have my other favorites, such as Project Runway and Grey's Anatomy. I'm also getting into Dancing with the Stars... I like that Drew Lachey is doing well and making a name for himself other than "Nick's brother" - I'm quite surprised by how well he's doing actually. I also like that female wrestler chick - she's amazing! And Tia Carrere b/c c'mon the girl JUST HAD A FRICKIN' BABY!!! And she's out there shakin' it with the rest of them.
I watched the Women's Figure Skating National Championship this weekend... this one determines our Olympic team for Turino this year. Michelle Kwan was given a spot even though she didn't compete due to an injury. But I saw the rest of the girls... besides Sasha Cohen, they're all pretty shaky so I don't think it's unfair to give Michelle Kwan someone else's spot. BTW - that "someone" is Emily Hughes, Sarah Hughes (2002 Olympic champion) younger sister!

North Pole, Earth
I have been a good Girl.
It really wasn't my fault what happened at Rory's Office party. It was Pumpkin who spiked the punch with too much Starbucks Eggnog Frappaccino Light. I can't help it if I drank 2 glasses. It was so good---smelled and tasted just like Baby powder.
I thought it was funny when I put Pinky's PJs on my head and danced the Hip Hop on the Papasan while singing `Seasons of Love'. I didn't mean to break Rory's iPod nano and don't know why Rory would accuse me of Stealing.
I don't remember calling John's wife a fantabulous pony---even though she looked like one with baby blue eye shadow and yellow lipstick!
And when I threw up on Lizette's husband's belly, it was only because I ate too much of that McDonald's ice cream cone.
After all that fun, I admit I was a little tired. So I fell asleep on my way home and drove my Prius through my neighbor's Laundry room. I don't think that was any reason for my neighbor to call me a wicked kitty and have me arrested for Embezzlement!
So, Santa...here I sit in my jail cell on Christmas Eve, all delicious and stinky. And I'm really not to blame for any of this hilarious stuff. Please bring me what I want the most---bail money!
Sincerely and haphazardly yours,
Audge (Really a nice Girl!)
P.S. It's only 75 bucks!

Dec. 13th, 2005 11:22 pm Earn a free iPod with me!
So I read on this one girl's website how she earned a free iPod by going to this one website. (It's a blog, not an ad pretending to be a testimonial.) And I always skipped it because it just seemed like another internet scam, but then I did a little bit of research and it seems legit.Leave a comment
FreePay's Free iPods Offer Now Available in Germany
The site itself offers further evidence, as this offer has been featured on CNN, NY Times, NPR, Boston Globe, etc.
Here's the deal: "To receive the iPod, participants are asked to sign up for one of about 10 different offers and to persuade five others to do the same." These "offers" are things like DVD/music subscriptions, magazine subscriptions, credit cards, etc.
I figure - what the heck! I'm trying the offer where you spend $1 for a week trial of entertainment services... we'll see what happens.
If you're curious, I recommend reading some of the articles from the freepay.com press room... a lot of them appear to be very frank, an unbiased.
